Guided tours of Kingston Cemeteries offered by The Friends of Historic Kingston

Pat Murphy conducting a cemetery tourMay 17, 2015. The Friends of Historic Kingston is pleased to announce the return of their popular walking tours of our local cemeteries. Learn about notable Kingstonians, incuding George Clinton, Thomas Cornell, George Coykendall, General George Sharpe, John Vanderlyn, Jervis McEntee, members of the U.S.Civil War Colored Infantry, and many others, as you view distinctive gravesites amid remarkable landscapes within the City of Kingston.

The program begins with a tour of Mount Zion Cemetery on South Wall Street led by Reverend James Childs on Sunday June 7 at 2 pm, and is followed by guided tours of the Old Dutch Graveyard by Nancy Chando (June 14), Wiltwyck Cemetery by Paul O’Neill (June 21), and Montrepose Cemetery (June 28). The Montrepose Cemetery Tour, led by Patricia Murphy and Dr. William Rhoads, will focus on the painter Jervis McEntee, his accomplished family, and the many well-known Kingstonians that lived in Kingston during his lifetime. This tour is intended to complement the Friends of Historic Kingston’s current exhibit “Jervis McEntee: Kingston’s Artist of the Hudson River School.”
