FHK Historic District Walking Tours
1658 Stockade National Historic District
Enjoy a guided walking tour of the largest intact early Dutch settlement in New York State and the neighborhood where New York State was born in 1777.
View a treasury of centuries-old architecture as you walk the heart of the original stockaded village of Kingston whose street plan was designed by Provincial-Governor Peter Stuyvesant in 1658. View a large cluster of native limestone houses built by descendants of the early settlers. Visit the courthouse site where the New York State Constitution was drafted, and the gravesite of New York’s first elected governor, George Clinton, in the Old Dutch Church burying ground. The tour concludes with a visit to the interior of the circa 1812 Fred J. Johnston House.
Offered on the first Saturday of the month, May through October, departing at 2 p.m. from the FHK Museum, corner of Wall and Main Streets.
Tour fee: $10 adult; $5 child under 16.

Rondout National Historic District Walking Tour
The one-hour tour traces the rise of Rondout in the nineteenth century as a thriving maritime village that mushroomed during the era when the village was the terminus for the Delaware and Hudson Canal that opened in 1828. View the rich legacy of commercial buildings, cast-iron storefronts, homes and churches built by the many nationalities that emigrated to Rondout and hear about the entrepreneurs who played key roles in the development of Kingston’s waterfront district. Some uphill walking is involved.
Offered the last Saturday of the month May through October, departing at 11 a.m. from the Kingston Heritage Area Visitors Center, 20 Broadway.
Fee: $5 adult; $2 child under 16.
